Dr. Nitasha Merchant, Optometrist, and Associates is your neighborhood eye doctor located at 727 West Dundee Road. Your Wheeling eyecare center offers genuine eye care where your eye health and wellness is our primary focus. Annual eye exams are a recommended cornerstone for ensuring the health of your eyes. In addition to checking for changes in your vision and updating your prescription, we will also look at your overall eye health, internally and externally. Prevention and early detection are keys to maintaining healthy eyes, as some eye health issues have no immediate symptoms but can still cause damage if left untreated. That’s why regular check-ups are critical.

  • Dr. Kenneth Portnoy

    Dr. Portnoy has been serving the eye care needs of the Wheeling and Lake Zurich area since 1982. He is therapeutically certified and trained to diagnose and treat ocular disease and emergencies as well as co-manage laser vision correction surgeries. Ken and his wife Bonnie has owned and operated the Pearle Vision in Wheeling since 1978.

    Education: Dr. Portnoy received his Doctor of Optometry degree from Illinois College of Optometry in 1978.

  • Dr. Nitasha Merchant

    Dr. Nitasha Merchant is a dedicated optometrist who joined our practice in July 2024. She earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico in 2021 and completed a specialized residency in low vision and geriatric ocular disease at the Illinois College of Optometry in 2022. Dr. Merchant is deeply committed to providing high-quality care and educating her patients on optimal eye health practices. Fluent in English, Spanish, and Urdu/Hindi.

    Education: Dr. Nitasha Merchant earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico in 2021.

  • Dr. Luke Alex

    Dr. Alex grew up in the Northwest Chicago suburbs, went to optometry school in Oklahoma, and returned to practice in the area. In the clinic, his areas of expertise are wide-ranging, including the treatment of dry eye, glaucoma, and myopia. His hobbies are hanging out with his dachshunds, running, and hiking/backpacking.

  • Dr. Meeta Saha

    Dr. Meeta Saha joined our practice in July 2020. She graduated with her bachelor's degree in Biology and Psychology from the University of Illinois in Chicago. Dr. Saha completed her doctorate of Optometry at the Illinois College of Optometry in 2012. Her passion is to create a relationship with her patients and understand each individual's needs to provide the highest level of care. Dr. Saha is married with two children and in her free time she enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
